Leadership on the Trail

Where personal growth meets real challenge.

These guided leadership hikes are designed to take people out of the normal classroom, office, or conference room and place them in an environment where leadership becomes real. On the trail, you have to manage your mindset, communicate clearly, keep moving when it gets uncomfortable, and make decisions with purpose.

Each hike combines physical challenge, guided reflection, and practical leadership lessons built around confidence, discipline, resilience, communication, and self-awareness. The goal is not just to reach a destination. The goal is to help each participant walk away stronger, clearer, and more prepared to lead in everyday life.

The mountains provide the setting. The leadership development is the mission.

Leadership on the Trail is built to create growth, connection, and a memory that lasts long after the hike is over.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at david@dynamicleadersconsulting.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

No. Our Leadership Hikes are designed for all experience levels. You’ll receive guidance, safety briefings, pacing support, and coaching throughout the entire trek. Beginners are welcome.

These hikes are moderately challenging. Expect uneven terrain, elevation changes, and long distances. You don’t need to be an athlete, but you should be able to walk several miles comfortably. We’ll take breaks as needed and move as a team.

You’ll need:

  • Comfortable hiking boots or trail shoes

  • Weather-appropriate clothing

  • A small personal kit (phone, ID, med items)

To maintain safety, quality, and trail compliance, each hike is limited to 8 participants, plus your hike leaders.

We monitor conditions closely. Light rain won’t stop a hike, but severe storms, dangerous conditions, or high-risk weather may result in a reschedule for everyone’s safety. Participants will be notified as early as possible.

Every hike includes lessons on:

  • Confidence

  • Self-discipline

  • Communication

  • Mindset under pressure

  • Teamwork

  • Problem-solving

  • Integrity

These lessons are woven naturally into the terrain and the experience.

Safety is our top priority. Each hike includes:

  • A trained hike leader

  • A dedicated sweep

  • Group safety protocols

  • Emergency plan

  • First-aid equipment

  • Communication plan

We follow all trail regulations and best practices.

Participants must be 16 or older.
Anyone 17 or under must have a parent or guardian sign the liability waiver.

Refunds are available up to 30 days before the scheduled hike.

Our hikes are designed to be inclusive. We move at a steady but manageable pace, take breaks, and support one another. No one is left behind. If someone is struggling, the team leader will work with them personally.

We follow a structured emergency action plan. Your hike leaders are trained to handle trail injuries, stabilize situations, and coordinate evacuation if necessary. Safety protocols are in place every step of the way.

No. Participants should bring their own snacks, water, and any personal nutrition items they may need during the hike. A recommended packing list will be provided before the event so everyone knows what to bring.

Most Leadership Hikes take place along iconic Virginia sections of the Appalachian Trail.

To challenge you, develop stronger leadership habits, strengthen your mindset, and help you grow as a person through real experience, not lectures or classrooms.
